Current research suggests that trauma may be the cause of many problems, causing physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and social symptoms. When past trauma goes untreated, it can influence all aspects of a person’s life. We know that it can be extremely difficult to confront your past and talk about hurtful and overwhelming experiences. Trauma can have a profound impact on mental health, leading to symptoms such as flashbacks, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Effective trauma therapy helps individuals process these experiences, regain control, and build resilience. Psychotherapy offers a range of effective approaches to help individuals heal from trauma and regain control over their lives. By addressing the physical, emotional, and psychological impact of trauma, Heal ATL therapists empower clients to process their experiences, develop resilience, and achieve lasting recovery.
Psychotherapy for trauma involves various therapeutic approaches aimed at helping individuals process and recover from traumatic experiences. EMDR is an evidence-based trauma-focused therapy that uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help individuals process and integrate traumatic memories. Brainspotting is a relatively new form of psychotherapy that helps individuals process and resolve emotional and physical trauma by using the field of vision to identify specific eye positions, or "brainspots," that correlate with traumatic memories and emotions. Other modalities used may include Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT skills, somatic experiencing, and mindfulness based interventions. We also offer KAP which has been found to be very effective in relieving PTSD symptoms. With a combination of these therapies based on your therapist’s theoretical orientation and experience, benefits to therapy can include:
Symptom Reduction: Therapy can significantly reduce trauma-related symptoms, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Improved Coping Skills: Clients learn practical skills to manage distress and build resilience.
Increased Self-Awareness: Therapy enhances self-awareness and insight into thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Empowerment: Clients gain a sense of control and empowerment over their healing process.
Emotional Processing: Therapy facilitates the processing and integration of traumatic memories, reducing their impact.
Restoration of Safety: Clients develop a sense of safety and security, both internally and externally.
