Do you experience any of the following? Feelings of worthlessness, shame and guilt; problems controlling your emotions; finding it hard to feel connected with other people; chronic relationship problems. These are symptoms of complex PTSD and you may benefit from trauma focused treatment.

Scott specializes in therapy for adults from all walks of life and chooses to explore with each individual client the things that make them unique. He believes that our individual differences and ‘flaws’ can be an enormous source of strength if we can validate and appreciate those distinctive aspects of ourselves.

Scott uses an integrative therapeutic approach, drawing from the following approaches: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Scott also believes that it is critical for the client to feel in control of the treatment process and to always feel that the therapy room is a safe space. This is only possible if we are able to listen to signals from our body and respond to them in a loving and compassionate manner. For this reason, Scott encourages clients to develop a mindfulness practice, which we will use in the therapy room to explore symptoms from a somatic perspective, “as they appear in the body.”

Scott believes that our emotional experience occurs primarily in our body, and the thoughts in our head follow that emotional experience. Scott spends a lot of time with his clients exploring how feelings and patterns of reacting developed over the course of a lifetime to gain a compassionate understanding of the current situation before trying to change unhelpful patterns of thinking.

A little bit more about Scott: His greatest joy in life is his family and he loves his wife and two sons dearly. He considers himself to be a creative person who loves reading, writing, baking, and music. He is also an Army veteran, although he is glad that period of his life is over. Outside of creative endeavors, Scott cares for his mind/body using exercise and he coaches part time at a CrossFit gym.

Scott operates under the direction of Dr. Shayda Nematollahi, LPC and under the clinical supervision of Dr. Andrew Cox, LCSW, LPC.
