Lynette Shaw, M.A.

Adult and Teen Psychotherapist

Phone: 833-HEAL-ATL ext. 5

Being seen in totality as a complex and multifaceted being. Being seen as more than your past. That’s what Lynette believes clients deserve in the therapeutic space. Lynette is an adult and teen psychotherapist who is passionate about highlighting the various intersecting identities clients hold, and the sociocultural factors that impact them. She uses a diverse multidisciplinary approach consisting of psychoanalysis, meditative mindfulness, Gestalt therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy, while maintaining a culturally aware lens grounded in liberation psychology.

Lynette’s certitude that our childhood/adolescent experiences offer insight about our current behaviors and tendencies is rooted in the belief that trauma is transferred epigenically from one generation to the next. Considering this perspective, she believes that our trauma is stored physically and psychologically.

Lynette is compassionate and offers support to victims and survivors of emotional, physical, financial, sexual, and verbal abuse. She is advocates for the societal awareness of intimate partner violence, and unsafe relationships. She helps clients heal from their abuse, set healthy boundaries, and advocate for themselves. Lynette believes that clients should feel empowered throughout the entirety of their therapeutic journey. Client autonomy is of the utmost importance when it comes to working with her. She believes that healing requires a different approach for each individual, and that it is the therapist’s responsibility to foster an environment for this healing to take place.

Lynette loves incorporating multicultural approaches to healing and holds knowledge regarding ancient Indian healing approaches such as chakra balancing, Ujjayi breath yoga, as well as West African collective healing principles. She offers a space where clients have the option of integrating their religious and/or spiritual beliefs into their treatment. Lynette engages in artistic creativity both inside and outside of the therapeutic space. She believes that meditation can come in different forms such as visual arts/performing arts, writing, storytelling, music, and nature.

Healing methods come in all forms. Lynette is certified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and has experience in suicide intervention and prevention. She supports and affirms LGBTQIA+ clients. Outside of clinical practice, she can be found junk journaling, scrapbooking, in a yoga session, styling clothes, and dancing.

Lynette operates under the direction of Dr. Shayda Nematollahi, LPC and under the clinical supervision of Brittany Hewitt, LPC, CPCS.

“There is a basin in the mind where words float around on thought and thought on sound

and sight. Then there is a depth of thought untouched by words, and deeper still a gulf of

formless feelings untouched by thought.”
